Specializing in the finest SOUTHERN arT AND Appraisal
Bio
Craig McMillin has been “playing in the mud” for forty years—never feeling like he’s worked a day in his life. Born in 1968 to a military family, he spent his formative years in Corpus Christi before finding his creative home in southeast Louisiana, where he established his studio in 1991.
Mastering pottery as a livelihood has never been easy, but Craig always made space for experimentation—testing the limits of form, surface, and especially glaze. Over the past two decades, crystalline glazes have become his signature. What began as technical curiosity evolved into a deeply intuitive process: he applies raw glazes that often bear little resemblance to the final outcome, envisioning their fluid interplay and unpredictable lure.
Craig draws inspiration from the quiet geometry of the natural world and the vast mystery of the cosmos. Yet he’s quick to clarify: it’s not he who orchestrates the final result—it’s the creator itself. Mcmillan’s work is in countless important private, public, and corporate collections, and he has distinguished himself as the regions foremost living monumental potter, creating works of scale, large wall hanging sculptures, and inspiring works that feel kinetic and alive.
